Consumer Care encompasses the segment of products that have been developed considering the function that each nutrient plays for the general health care of the consumer. These products are accessible to consumers, available without a prescription, in retail stores and pharmacies. It is a fast-growing area, due to the fact that people are increasingly interested in health-related products, especially with regard to nutritional needs related to healthy and active aging.
Medical Nutrition helps patients achieve specific dietary needs suffering from illness or with specific needs. These products are specially processed or manufactured to be used exclusively or as a supplement in the diet of patients with limited ability to ingest, digest, absorb or metabolize conventional foods or patients with specific nutritional needs determined by their clinical condition. These products are recommended by the health professional and used in hospitals, nursing homes and home care.
In Novel Therapeutic Nutrition we are investing in companies with a variety of nutrient-based technology platforms, with the goal of presenting clinically proven innovations, initially in the areas of the brain and gastrointestinal health. We are supporting several clinical trials of a product that helps the brain process the glucose needed for effective brain function that would work on brain health and Alzheimer's disease. In gastrointestinal health, one of our initiatives is in the investment to develop therapies for microbiota. They have the potential to address the underlying causes of many types of diseases, restoring the gut microbiota to a healthy state.
